Join the Diocese of Brentwood pilgrimage to Lourdes
Lourdes Theme for 2017
"The Almighty has done great things for me"
2017 is a year of immense significance: it will be the hundredth anniversary of the founding of our diocese. One of the first acts of our first bishop – Bernard Ward – was to write to Rome. He had a special request for the pope: could Brentwood Diocese have as its patroness, Our Lady of Lourdes? The pope granted him the request and, ever since, Lourdes is for our diocese not just another place of pilgrimage but our special and personal place of pilgrimage.
We do not know what the next hundred years will bring but we know what we want: our families to be safe, our faith to be strong and our parishes to be flourishing communities. That is a lot to pray for and there is no better place for us to pray than in Lourdes.
I invite you, therefore, to join our diocesan pilgrimage in 2017. We shall be young and old, sick and well, East London and Essex. It will be good for our diocesan family to come together, worship together, laugh together. As ever, we shall be served by our Diocesan Youth Service – the best in the country. Whatever your medical needs may be, we shall do our best to enable you to have a wonderful pilgrimage.
I look forward to seeing you in Lourdes.
Yours in Christ and Mary,
Bishop of Brentwood
