Join the Archdiocese of Birmingham pilgrimage to Lourdes
Lourdes Theme for 2017
"The Almighty has done great things for me"
After the overwhelming success of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Sanctuary of Lourdes invites pilgrims in 2017 to follow the path opened by the 25th World Day of the Sick as we contemplate suffering through the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Pope Francis reminds us that The Magnificat is Mary’s Song of Hope, because wherever the Cross is to be found, there you will always find hope. The Church too sings this song in every part of the world, especially in places where the Body of Christ is suffering the Passion. ‘Mary accompanies these communities of our brothers and sisters and suffers with them, and sings with them the Magnificat of Hope.’(Homily 15th August 2013).
One of the many beautiful names we use for our Blessed Lady is ‘Mary, Health of the Sick’ (Mary,
Salus Infirmorum). Our pilgrimage to Lourdes is an opportunity to experience for ourselves how Mary accompanies us in the struggle to carry our own crosses and those we lift for others; and to hear her sing to each of us her Song of Hope.
Thank you for joining Archbishop Bernard and Bishop David on our diocesan pilgrimage of Hope.
‘Pray for us. O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.’
